Bang & Olufsen Unveils the Beosound A9 Sienna in Johannesburg with an Afternoon of Sound and Water

LinkedIn Email

To introduce the Beosound A9 Sienna in Johannesburg, Bang & Olufsen didn’t put on a conventional product reveal. It held an afternoon in Kramerville built around the idea that clarity, whether in sound or in water, shows itself to people who stop and pay attention.

A Warmer Voice for a Familiar Form

Few speakers are as easy to recognise across a room as the Beosound A9. Its circular silhouette, set on slender legs, has long been as much about sculpture as sound. With the Beosound A9 Sienna, Bang & Olufsen gives that familiar form a warmer, more tactile character. It is a speaker that asks to be lived with as well as listened to.

The Sienna Brown finish runs across the body and the brushed aluminium legs, carrying a rich, rose toned warmth that changes the speaker’s presence in a room. Where earlier expressions of the A9 leaned towards the cool restraint associated with Scandinavian design, this one feels softer and closer to the materials and colours of a lived in home.

The Fabric Is Part of the Design

Much of that warmth comes from the front. The A9 Sienna is dressed in a custom Woolscape textile in Mineral Red, developed by Kvadrat Febrik and the Swedish design studio Front exclusively for Bang & Olufsen. It is woven from four complementary tones, so the fabric moves between mineral red, blush and earthy pink and gives the surface real depth up close.

The textile does more than decorate. It has to let sound pass through cleanly, and its design works with the speaker’s acoustic performance rather than against it. Pairing an established textile house with a design studio for a single colourway shows how seriously Bang & Olufsen treats the speaker as an object people will look at every day.

What a Glass of Water Can Teach the Ear

The afternoon at the Bang & Olufsen Experience Centre in Kramerville was built around an unexpected pairing. Finest Water Sommelier Candice Barry guided guests through a tasting of Acqua San Bernardo, introducing the nuances that set one water apart from another.

The connection was deliberate. Water shows its character only when you pay attention to its minerality, texture and finish. Sound works the same way: its quality comes through in detail, balance and clarity, and a careless listener misses it. With the A9 Sienna providing the soundscape, the tasting worked as a lesson in listening as much as in drinking.

Rosé, Blush and a Playlist Made by the Room

The Sienna palette of rose gold, soft pink and rosé ran through the whole afternoon, from the dress code to the styling and the food. After the water tasting, Ultimate Provence wines were served with beetroot gravlax, carpaccio and petits fours, each picking up the warm tones of the speaker.

The most personal detail came before anyone arrived. Guests had been invited to submit their favourite songs ahead of the event, so the playlist they heard through Bang & Olufsen sound was one they had built together. This has become something of a signature at Bang & Olufsen South Africa events, and it works. A room listens differently when the music belongs to the people in it.

Beyond the launch itself, guests explored the wider collection on display, from the Private Cinema and vinyl listening to the wearable, travel friendly and home audio products presented throughout the space.

The Art of Paying Attention

Plenty of launches show a product. This one asked guests to slow down and notice the minerality in a glass of water, the four tones woven into a single fabric, and the detail in a song they chose themselves. That kind of attention is what the Beosound A9 Sienna is made to reward. Prestige was proud to join Bang & Olufsen South Africa, Acqua San Bernardo, Finest Water Sommelier, Ultimate Provence and Kramerville Design District for the occasion.
