Bride & Co introduces Threads of Heritage, a unique bridal service that allows brides, grooms and guests to add a touch of South African heritage to the classic Bride & Co designs on offer. This bold new project is a celebration of culture, diversity and inclusivity. After 2 decades of being at the forefront of bridal design, Bride & Co introduces a new era of ingenuity that rises to the occasion.

More than a wedding dress
Verona Dharman, COO of Bride & Co, quietly observed the growing trend of multiculturalism in modern wedding celebrations and recognised the opportunity to serve brides who have had to source both a traditional gown and a white wedding dress separately. Dharman and her team at Bride & Co. recognise that weddings are not only a union of two people, but also a union of two cultures. With Threads of Heritage, they have created a service that celebrates this union.
The service allows brides to select any gown from the Bride & Co selection and customise it with heritage-inspired fabrics, beadwork and detailing. The accent pieces can also be removed and repurposed with other garments, creating a timeless statement piece for any occasion. By incorporating traditional South African textiles, colours and adornment into contemporary bridal silhouettes, the initiative aims to create gowns that merge modern elegance with cultural pride.
More than simply selecting a wedding dress, Threads of Heritage offers brides a personalised design experience that places representation and cultural storytelling at the centre of the bridal journey.

Something old, something new
For 20 years, Bride & Co has offered the finest selection of bridalwear and occasion dresses to rent or purchase with in-house tailoring and accessories. The Threads of Heritage service starts with the bride selecting her gown of choice from the Bride & Co offering, along with a choice of beading and fabric from Bride & Co’s heritage collection. From bold Zulu beadwork, to vibrant Swati swathes and elegant Tswana prints, brides will have a personal hand in creating a dream wedding dress that honours their culture and personal story. During the consultation process, Bride & Co’s alterations team works closely with each bride to determine how these elements will be incorporated into the design.
Heritage details can be integrated into sleeves, trains, veils or statement panels, allowing brides to honour tradition while maintaining the elegance of modern bridal design.
“Weddings are deeply personal and often rooted in tradition,” says Marketing Manager, Premika Jahbardan. “Threads of Heritage was created to allow brides to honour their culture while still embracing a contemporary bridal aesthetic.”

Suited for tradition
The concept also extends beyond the bride and bridesmaids. Grooms purchasing suits from Eurosuit can incorporate coordinating heritage-inspired details such as lapel accents, pocket squares or bow ties, creating a cohesive look that maintains contemporary design while embracing cultural expression. The accents elevate a classic suit with colour and individuality, suitable for both a groom and his guests.

A brand with heritage
Threads of Heritage could not have been executed without a deep respect and understanding of various native southern African cultures. In an era of awareness and consideration of the value of diversity, it takes a brand with a deep understanding of human-centric storytelling to treat African bridalwear with the due care it deserves. Furthermore, with the rise of fast fashion websites absorbing market share over recent years, it is the reinforcement of legacy that allows Bride & Co to enter into the space with confidence and care.
With 20 years of fitting the weddings of South Africans from all walks of life, Threads of Heritage is a showcase of Bride & Co’s status as both a legacy brand and a pioneer. Rooted firmly in decades of world-class service, while evolving for an ever-changing market.
Across South Africa, traditions of love, marriage and womanhood are expressed through fabric, colour and adornment. Threads of Heritage translates these traditions into modern bridal design, offering brides an opportunity to celebrate their heritage in a way that feels both authentic and elegant.
The result is a gown that reflects not only personal style, but also cultural identity and story.
