The Art of Time, Interpreted Through Gemstone Mastery
The Tambour has long been recognised as a rare and remarkable timepiece, distinguished by aesthetics, workmanship, and movement that place it firmly in the realm of the timeless. First introduced in 2002 and re-imagined with an anniversary edition in 2022, this drum-shaped watch remains one of Louis Vuitton’s most iconic creations. Its evolution in 2023 brought a refined silhouette crafted for the modern collector, featuring a slimmer profile, an integrated bracelet, and expressions in stainless steel and precious metals. The curved sides, a sandblasted bezel marked with the 12 letters “LOUIS VUITTON”, and a beautifully finished movement developed in collaboration with Le Cercle des Horlogers ensured the model remained firmly rooted in the Maison’s dedication to savoir-faire.

The Art of Time, Perfected
Louis Vuitton now expands its collection with two exceptional references that explore the delicate arts of gem setting and stone cutting. The introduction of a new yellow-gold Tambour with an onyx dial and saffron sapphires, along with a platinum Tambour adorned with multicoloured sapphires and rubies, offers a vivid interpretation of High Watchmaking. These high-end expressions highlight the precision, artistry, and curation required to shape 18K yellow gold and 950 platinum into striking cases that celebrate colour, craftsmanship, and rarity. The debut of hard onyx as a dial material within the Tambour line further enhances the significance of these limited editions.
Produced in highly restricted quantities — 30 and 50 pieces respectively — these references represent bold expressions of Louis Vuitton’s unwavering commitment to savoir-faire.

Tambour Yellow Gold with Onyx Dial and Saffron Sapphires
The Elegance of Onyx and Sapphire
Joining the existing steel, yellow gold, rose gold, and two-tone references, this limited-edition 40mm Tambour in solid 18K yellow gold introduces an onyx dial framed by a bezel set with saffron-coloured sapphires and complemented by matching indices. The circular-brushed case creates a harmonious contrast with the baguette-cut stones, while the vertically brushed and polished integrated bracelet with an invisible folding buckle ensures comfort and sophistication. Sporty, elegant, and undeniably luminous, it is an ideal companion for a lifestyle defined by travel and refinement.

As the first use of hard stone within the Tambour line, the onyx dial is crafted from multiple pieces of Brazilian onyx. Skilled artisans drill raw blocks before reducing them into delicate layers, each shaped and calibrated with utmost precision. A single error restarts the process. The minute ring comprises 12 individual pieces, with an additional central plate and a separate hour ring. Once assembled, artisans drill recesses to house 11 baguette-cut saffron sapphires and apply the double signature in white printing to avoid damage to the stone. The 18K yellow-gold hands with hand-applied Super-LumiNova and the black lacquer small-seconds counter at 6 o’clock offer clarity against the deep, reflective dial.
The saffron hue of the gemstones draws inspiration from a 1911 Louis Vuitton “Vuittonite” trunk. The warmth of these baguette-cut stones continues onto the bezel, which features 48 additional sapphires totalling approximately 2.22 carats. Their vibrancy enhances the black onyx and golden case, creating a captivating interplay of tone and brilliance.
Slim, radiant, accurate, and precise, the Tambour Yellow Gold with Onyx Dial and Saffron Sapphires is engraved “1 of 30”, reaffirming its exclusivity

Tambour Platinum with Gradiated Sapphires and Rubies
Can artistry truly come alive in every vibrant detail?
Crafted from platinum, a metal celebrated for its strength, weight, and soft silver-white glow, this new Tambour is the first in the collection to feature platinum. Its 40mm case, measuring just 8.3mm thick, requires exceptional skill to shape and polish. Every part, from the bezel and crown to the interlinks, is carefully finished, creating the perfect stage for the vibrant gemstone gradient.
The gemstones are what truly bring this watch to life. Fifty-nine baguette-cut corundum stones, sourced from Sri Lanka and Mozambique, are carefully selected for their colours. Greens, blues, fuchsias, yellows, and more are arranged with painstaking precision to create a flawless rainbow gradient. Achieving such a seamless flow takes patience, skill, and a deep understanding of each stone’s character. The final result is a watch that feels alive with colour, movement, and artistry.
Every element considered, every detail perfected, this watch proves that artistry can indeed come alive in every vibrant detail.

A Considered Gift: A Fresh Take on Gift Cards

Experiences of this calibre present a natural opportunity for premium gifting solutions, and future luxury gift cards in South Africa could offer clients a seamless way to share access to exceptional pieces and bespoke services. Positioned alongside remarkable creations such as these, an elegantly presented gift card would provide a refined and meaningful option for those wishing to celebrate milestones with the timeless world of Louis Vuitton.
