Rebirth of a Legend
Club Med has re-imagined one of its most iconic resorts and reopened it after a decade-long refurbishment, making it one of the crown jewels in the company’s portfolio, and their most prestigious resort in all Europe.
Originally established in 1957 in the northern Sicilian town from which it takes its name, Club Med Cefalù reopens this month with 304 stylish rooms with views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, 3 restaurants with Michelin Star-inspired menus and custom concierge access to the best of Sicily.
The Exclusive Collection resort sits across the bay from the ‘old town’ of Cefalù, home to a spectacular 12th-century cathedral and a warren of cute cobbled streets. While centuries of history in the terracotta town are within a 15-minute walk or blink-of-an-eye shuttle ride, the resort itself is a modern, slick interpretation of the ultimate hedonistic holiday spot. Designed with an emphasis on stone and wood by architectural firm King Rosselli, and with refined interiors in muted tones by Sophie Jacquim, the resort merges seamlessly into the island landscape.
By day, enjoy 24/7 Club Med Concierge access to the best of Sicily – visit Scarface’s Corleone or take a helicopter flight over active volcano Stromboli. Rent a Fiat 500 to travel around Palermo and Tindar, or an off-road vehicle to explore Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe. Enjoy in-resort watersports with sailing and ‘Electric Surfing’ – think jet-ski meets surfboard – for an effortless ocean thrill.
La Rocca restaurant offers buffet-style Sicilian delicacies and international cuisine, and the Riva Beach Restaurant is the go-to spot for grilled Mediterranean fish dishes; but at the Gourmet Palace in the 17th Century Il Palazzo building, guests dine from a Sicilian-inspired a la carte menu or experience world-class tasting sessions, all designed by Michelin-starred chef Andrea Berton. After dinner, party the night away at the Il Covo bar, right on the rocks – or enjoy a quiet sundowner at the Azzurro Bar, around the infinity pool with its views of Cefalù.
Club Med Cefalù is a 90 minute drive from Palermo and 3 hours from Catania, with 1-stop flights from South Africa connecting to Palermo via Rome, Munich, Frankfurt, Zurich and London. Visit Club Med South Africa for more.
