Marataba: divine luxury in the bush
Cuddled in the folds of the Waterberg Mountains, Marataba’s elegant, stilted Mountain Lodge overlooks the almost-velvet pink escarpments of its surrounds, surrounding guests in a warm and relaxing ambience that only the bush can deliver.
Marataba, a MORE property, is dedicated to the finer things in life while still allowing for a natural and up-close wildlife experience. While there are two lodges on this 23 000 ha reserve, Marataba Mountain Lodge is an exclusive five-room lodge, positioned on a slope overlooking the Waterfall Valley. Its remote nature is tempered with luxurious suites, designed to be eco-friendly, and a host of sophisticated necessities such as a swimming pool and intimate dining and lounge area.
Ideal for groups, the lodge caters for all dietary requirements with a private chef on hand for the duration of your stay. Crafting fresh and delicious meals that use local, seasonal vegetables. Meals are presented in the dining area with an elegant flourish and present an opportunity for your private guide to recount the day’s sightings.
Marataba Mountain Lodge differentiates itself by offering guided walking safaris. Setting out into the bush on foot offers a new perspective on familiar species and allows guests the opportunity to enjoy any one of the Big 5, and of course other animals, up close.
Not all safaris need to be taken on foot, however. Morning and evening game drives of about four hours each can be arranged to explore the furthest reaches of the reserves. Water cruises on the Matlabas River aboard Miss Mara, Marataba’s boat, and even special breakfast cruises can be arranged for guests looking for something unique.
For a really wild experience, spend an evening in the Thabametsi Treehouse under the naked stars. Don’t worry though, this solar-powered treehouse is decked out on two levels, with a bedroom, full shower room facilities, and dining and lounge areas. Everything that makes for a luxury bush breakaway.
