A Black And White Bedroom With A Chandelier.

Magic at The Milestone

Many hotel groups boast about their venues being a ‘Home away from Home’, yet few can achieve this accolade successfully. The Milestone Hotel in Kensington, London, is one of the few venues that have accomplished this, with a lot of personal assistance from the President and Founder of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, Bea Tollman.

This beautifully designed boutique hotel is best described as ‘olde worlde charm meets new world standards’. Although small, it boasts opulent fittings and decor.

The original dwelling was built in the 1600’s and the site changed hands over time. In fact, one of the noblemen who owned it claimed to be Shakespeare’s grandson. The hotel was badly damaged in a fire in 1986 and was then bought by the Red Carnation group and transformed into the exclusive establishment it is today. With a prime location near Kensington Gardens and the Palace, it offers an idyllic, picturesque setting. Add a unique bar and a tastefully equipped spa, and you have the ideal location for your London stay.

Each of the hotel’s 44 deluxe guest rooms, 12 suites and six long-stay apartments is unique, beautifully adorned, with its own message and story. We enjoyed a stay in the Mistinguette Suite that came complete with its own private mini garden.

Red Carnation is renowned for its ethos and personalised service.

The hotel claims to have two staff members to every guest and from the impeccable service we received, I can believe this. The Milestone is also pet and child friendly, which is rare for a boutique five star location.
The food, including delicious canapés that mysteriously arrived in our suite while we were out exploring, is superb, and more evidence of the hotel’s well-deserved five-star status. This stunning hotel is truly a home away from home and the number of visitors who return time and again bears testimony to this.

Given the South African heritage of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection and its global achievements (some of its local establishments include the spectacular Oyster Box and the magnificent Twelve Apostles), the bar was set pretty high.

But at the Milestone, we were definitely not disappointed. The group has recently acquired a castle in Ireland and I believe that Mrs Tollman is personally overseeing its revamp for a launch next year. I can’t wait to see what she’ll achieve with her magic this time…
