The Samsung S23 Ultra boasts an exquisite design that exudes elegance and sophistication. Its sleek, slim profile combined with a premium glass and metal construction offered a luxurious feel in the palm of my hand. The 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display is a visual treat, featuring QHD+ resolution and HDR10+ support, providing vibrant colours and deep blacks. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and enhanced user interaction.

Camera System:

Being required to gather content at media events, I used the camera function more than most. The camera setup of the S23 Ultra is nothing short of exceptional. Equipped with a quad-camera system, featuring a 108MP main sensor, a 48MP periscope telephoto lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 3D ToF sensor, this phone delivers unparalleled photography capabilities. The zoom functionality is a standout feature, offering up to 100x Space Zoom, which enabled me to capture stunning details even from a distance. Low-light photography is impressive, thanks to improved night mode algorithms and larger pixel sizes. Ensuring clear and bright images in challenging lighting conditions, which made taking pictures and videos at nighttime events a treat.

Performance and Battery Life:

Powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8-series chipset (or Samsung’s own Exynos variant), combined with ample RAM and storage options, the S23 Ultra delivers lightning-fast performance. Multitasking and app switching are seamless, with no lag or slowdowns. I would imagine that this is also true for gaming.

Since I do quite a bit of video and image editing, I really pushed the limits on performance and was suitably impressed.

The device also supports 5G connectivity, ensuring blazing-fast download and upload speeds when connecting to 5G networks. The substantial battery capacity, combined with optimized power management, allows for all-day usage without the need for frequent recharging. Which was definitely a win on long days with multiple events. The S23 Ultra also offers both wireless charging and reverse wireless charging capabilities, the latter being particularly useful for charging my wireless headphones.

Software and User Experience:

The Samsung S23 Ultra runs on the latest version of Samsung’s custom user interface, which offers a polished and intuitive experience. The UI is feature-rich, with customizable settings, improved gesture navigation, and a wide range of pre-installed apps. The integration of the S Pen, a feature I loved on the Galaxy Note, further enhances productivity and creativity. I mainly used it to take notes and draw, but it also allowed me to navigate with precision.

Additional Features:

The S23 Ultra is packed with additional features to elevate the overall user experience. The ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner provides fast and secure biometric authentication. The stereo speakers tuned by AKG deliver immersive audio, while Dolby Atmos support enhances the sound quality further.

The Samsung S23 Ultra showcases Samsung’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology and I, for one, was very impressed.
