Whalehaven’s Seascape Reserve Chardonnay Honoured as a Top 10 in the World

Whalehaven’s Seascape Reserve Chardonnay 2024 has received a notable honour. It was named one of the “Top 10 Chardonnays in the World” at Chardonnay du Monde 2025 in Burgundy, which is widely recognized as a centre of fine wine.

Exceptional Achievement at Chardonnay du Monde 2025

Now in its 32nd year, this event brings together the world’s best wines as judges carefully select the top champions of this noble varietal. Consequently, Whalehaven’s inclusion among such esteemed company further solidifies its standing as a leader in seaside elegance and refined craftsmanship.

The 2024 vintage, yet to debut globally, has already gained international attention through select agents, indicating its expected excellence. Crafted in South Africa’s renowned Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, the vintage epitomises the perfect harmony of cool-climate terroir and meticulous winemaking.

Master of Wine Richard Kershaw, who directs the winemaking team, describes it as “a true masterpiece of balance and sophistication.” He highlights its delicate pale gold hue and the intoxicating floral fragrances of gardenia and lucerne. On the palate, stone fruit, fresh pear, and minerality emerge, balanced by hints of toasted oak, spice, and depth. Bright acidity and orchard fruits create a complex finish that lingers long after the last sip.

Leadership and Recognition

At the helm of Whalehaven is Silvana Bottega, a second-generation custodian of the estate, and her unwavering dedication is, therefore, steering the vineyard towards international acclaim. She reflects, “Winning this honour from Chardonnay du Monde is more than a milestone; it’s a recognition of the exceptional terroir of Hemel-en-Aarde and the innate artistry of our winemaking team. The 2024 vintage captures the essence of cool-climate elegance — a perfect blend of minerality, acidity, and clarity that reflects its maritime origins.”

This accolade enhances Whalehaven’s reputation as a top South African winery, emphasising its coastal influence and commitment to excellence. Furthermore, with the 2024 Seascape Reserve Chardonnay on the horizon, connoisseurs can anticipate a truly exceptional, seaside-inspired wine.
