Children to benefit from investment art, collectibles and experiences auction at Imibala Summer Gala
The first-ever Imibala Summer Gala will take place in early February at the magnificent Vergelegen Wine Estate in the Cape Winelands.
The glamorous Summer Gala will include lively performances from children who participate in Imibala Trust programmes, an act by internationally acclaimed local artist Jeremy Loops, a luxury charity auction with a host of five-star spoils including artworks, wine and local getaways, as well as a sit-down dinner on the lawns of the historic Vergelegen Estate.
The Summer Gala will raise funds for the Imibala Trust while celebrating the talent and beautiful artwork of the children who are participating in the Imibala programmes.
The Imibala Trust
Initially founded by Gaynor Rupert in 2001, the Imibala Trust is a multi-faceted South African non-profit organization that focuses on children’s academic, creative and psycho-social development through a variety of dynamic programmes – ranging from music, dance and art endeavours to learner advancement labs, wellness and gardening programmes and their Sponsor-a-Child uniform drive that provides uniforms for 2500 children each year.
The Imibala Summer Gala
The reception will be held on the beautiful lawns of the Vergelegen Wine Estate, and in true Imibala style, promises to be a superb night reflecting the sense of colour, joy and South African spirit that is core to the Imibala Trust, where children are encouraged to imagine a future filled with optimism and opportunity.
The Gala Event is, of course, a true circular exercise. As such, students currently engaged in the work of the Trust will be dressing the event venue, making all the table settings, the table linen, as well as their own zero-waste art installations. Many of these one-off art pieces will also be on auction on the night – a fitting reminder of the power of creativity as a means of transformation for vulnerable children. The funds raised from the auction will benefit hundreds of at-risk children living in the Eastern Cape and the Helderberg Basin. This includes Somerset West, Macassar, Strand and Gordons Bay, as well as more South African locations where there is need.
The Auction Lots
The Summer Gala will begin with a champagne reception before guests enter a beautiful glass marquee for a sit-down dinner. The Imibala Trust Auction of exclusive and covetable lots, many of them absolute one-offs, will follow thereafter. The lots include jewellery from Chopard, a collectible Dylan Lewis sculpture, numerous leisure trips, both in South Africa and abroad, curated to include world-class fine dining experiences and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, a Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons Experience, and a bespoke Imibala Panerai watch, worth over one million rand.

Gala patron Gaynor Rupert says, “neither the gala nor the Trust’s work would be possible without strong partnerships in the community of donors, like-minded individuals, organisations and volunteers. It is an integral part and provides a firm foundation for the effective implementation of our programmes.”
“We are especially grateful to Anglo American; without their generous support and the work of the Imibala CEO Theo Willemse and Imibala Marketing Lead, Reece Akerman, this Gala would never have been possible.
“My great wish is there to be an Imibala village in every small town where there is need, and I invite those with the means to support this event, celebrate the children and their efforts, and make a positive contribution towards their development and future prospects.”
