The Power of Positivity

Attitude has a major impact on work performance. It also has an effect on your employees, customers and work relationships, workforce diversity, career success and teamwork.

Elwood Chapman and Wil McKnight say: “The attitude you bring with you every day will significantly affect what you can see, what you can do and how you feel about it.”

Positive employees make better decisions, are more creative, more productive, more resilient and have better interpersonal skills. According to research (Anchor, 2010) happiness leads to success and not the other way around as many people still believe. Therefore, positive people are more likely to become successful.

As a leader in the workplace, your energy and attitude could determine the success of a meeting, a workday or even your overall company. It all starts with yourself, your awareness of positive environments, the way you deal with negativity, creating positive, supportive and rewarding processes and energising your team.

A leading entrepreneur and an expert at thinking strategically, facilitating solutions and addressing organisational challenges, Howard Feldman, has the experience to rightfully comment on positivity within a working environment, and on a personal level. According to him there are three things that everyone can expect in the next couple of months, counting down the days to the end of the year: A year-end function which you might not be in the mood for, a family Christmas party which you cannot wait for and the unavoidable cost of December.

After slaving away over a laptop and negotiating over ideas and insights, the last thing you want as you approach the end of the year is a sense of doom. Feldman says that now is the time to change that, to haul out the initial new-years positivity that slowly, but surely died away as the year progressed.

Facing a year-end function while you are tired could be quite the challenge. Not only are you tired of the work, but also the office, its people and the stress that comes with it. Hiring a professional speaker like Feldman who could add some spice to the event might be a lifesaver. Someone who could add some ideas that you can take home with you and mull over; positivity that you can keep for those tough moments in December and take with you into 2019.

Ways to keep the positive juices flowing at the end of the year is to keep showing gratitude, to practice thankfulness, to appreciate little wins, to develop relationships and to understand your mission.

Understanding the reason behind everything you do, helps to build positivity even on the worst workdays.

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.” – Zig Ziglar
