Wolf of Wall Street’s Lamborghini Countach on the market
Luxury Cars Coming to New York’s Luxury Week Auction
Home to the financial markets on Wall Street, as well as the fashion houses of Fifth Avenue, New York City, is a worldwide hub for high-end luxury and this is why it also plays host to the Sotheby’s Luxury Week.
RM Sotheby’s, the leading private sale facilitator and auctioneer of premium collectibles, recently announced that it will once again bring the world’s most desirable luxury motor cars to the cosmopolitan city with a dedicated auction hosted at Sotheby’s global New York headquarters during its December Luxury Week sale series.
Celebrating the cutting edge of automotive design, the fourth iteration of the company’s New York sale will boast an expertly curated roster of history’s most iconic automobiles from the world’s most admired marques.
The Iconic Film Star
In the world of film, and relevant to the upcoming New York sale, the 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary, which starred in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street,” takes the spotlight. Sharing the screen with Leonardo DiCaprio, this Bianco Polo over Bianco Countach represented the ultimate acquisition for Jordan Belfort, the film’s real-life financial “Wolf,” just as it did for many in the late 1980s. One of the most memorable vehicles in modern film history—having transcended the boundaries of its own automotive legacy and embraced the realm of timeless cinematic artistry—is made rarer still, with only 12 believed to have been made in this specification (estimated at $1,500,000-$2,000,000).
Rare and Pristine
Scorsese’s ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ featured not one but two Countach sports cars in similar configurations. For the most memorable scene, a nighttime drive with an inebriated DiCaprio, the filmmakers used a second Countach showing lifelike damage.
This example, the movie’s hero car, remained pristine and unharmed. With its star turn, this cinematic Countach is undeniably world-famous. A timeless fusion of automotive and cinematic zeitgeist, chassis number KLA12722 is an iconic example that intertwines the legacies of Lamborghini and Hollywood and serves as an emblem to multiple generations.
Clad in its rare all-white colour scheme, paired with its on-screen pedigree, this Countach is the first collector car announced for RM Sotheby’s boutique New York sale—an exclusive auction of extraordinary automobiles held during Sotheby’s Luxury Week on 8 December. Watch for more exceptional highlights coming soon.
“The ‘Wolf’ Countach, along with the other cars that will be on offer, perfectly embodies what we set out to accomplish when we decided to host a sale during Sotheby’s Luxury Week. Scorsese, DiCaprio, Lamborghini, and New York—all make for an incredible pedigree. The sale will feature other similar cars—unique, highly collectible, with a degree of provenance, low mileage, or one-off specifications. Our team has a great track record of curating boutique sales such as this, and we look forward to showcasing this during Luxury Week.”
